Don´t know how to engage your employees?
It´s immensely curious how most people feel absolutely miserable when they go to work. It´s as if people chose the job they hated the most. Believe it or not, this modicum fact significantly affects one´s productivity. Furthermore, this negative attitude towards one´s job is actually contagious, which is why co-workers might start feeling the same after seeing someone with in their team who’s looking grumpy or un-aproachable. So here’s some tips on how to engage your employees.
It is very important for you to keep your employees completely engaged and content with what they do. So how to engage your employees? Well there are some dynamics or regulations you can implement (or change) in your work space to make it more enjoyable and help your employees be more productive and efficient.
Let them be
The problem with most managers and supervisors is that they want their employees to behave in a certain manner, as if they were still in school. Is not wrong to have a certain degree of discipline at the office, but you have to let your employees be themselves when they are working. If not, they will feel immensely pressured and stressed, significantly reducing their productivity and efficiency.
Detect their positive aspects
Instead of criticizing your employees all the time you should try encouraging them each time they succeed with one task. Furthermore, you should help them find that “thing” in which they are naturally and exceptionally good. We can guarantee that nothing gets a person more excited than finding something they are good at. From that point on, they will start enjoying their job and will produce more without even complaining. Complimenting your employees for a well-done job is one of the best (and easiest!) things you can do in order to elevate their motivation towards their job and help them feel more engaged.
Give them the capacity to lead
This doesn’t mean you should promote your employees to managers as soon as they do a good job. However, you should put them in a position of influence among their peers or co-workers. Not only will you develop their leadership skills, but they will feel that you trust them and will be way more engaged on their job. Furthermore, this is an exceptional opportunity to discover a hidden talent among all your employees. In fact, this is a chance that most managers miss because they are not willing to promote or give their employees any kind of influential position.
Don´t focus solely on their mistakes
The fact that we´re all humans makes us vulnerable to mistakes. For that reason, you have to be tolerant to your employees´ errors. If you constantly remind them of the things they´ve done wrong, they´ll start feeling guilty and will eventually lose their confidence. The worst part is: instead of overcoming that single mistake, they will commit it over and over due to your harmful words. Instead, try supporting them each time something goes wrong.
These are the best strategies you can use at work to engage your employees and significantly increase their productivity at work. Always remember to be a good listener and give your employees a chance when they deserve. Being a good leader doesn´t mean you have to be bossy, nor does it mean you have to be a hippie. The secret lies in finding the sweet spot in the middle of these two.
So that’s our quick list of ideas on how to engage your employees, in summary:
- Let them be themselves.
- Encourage and develop their talents.
- Support them to be leaders.
- Allow mistakes without being overly critical.
